Something Linty this Way Comes (first post)

It all started with this shirt:

Ok. I lied. It didn't start with the shirt. It started with a few random draw strings of my son Wade's shorts getting snapped in half by the dryer lint collector which was snagging these items in my dryer:

The next thing I know it had grabbed my pajamas and ripped the string on them apart too. I am usually a pretty curious person, but I just kept emptying the lint collection tray each time (I'm not that dad that doesn't know he's supposed to do that) and then tried to jam it down further. It didn't seem to go down to where it was supposed to, but it also felt like it had always been like that.

The tipping point occurred when I went to put on the previously mentioned shirt and found this:

What? The best shirt I had ever bought from Value Village (seriously, it was lke $3) ruined? My daughter Hannah told me to "just tuck it in", but I was incensed. I had to get to the bottom of this...

As I shone the flashlight from my phone down there, I realized that there was a small "accumulation" of lint (and other stuff) that had been forming (and solidifying) over the past few years...

This is what came out after I extracted it with chop sticks, rulers, a fork and, finally, the vacuum...

This stuff was all hiding below the lint trap and had been forming like stalagmites in an underground cave. A few pieces of lint at a time, over many cycles of drying, one on top of each other.

After my investigation, the lint catcher now slides in nicely to where it is supposed to go:
